Caution for Potential Deep Neck Lift Patients
Even though resources like Real Face provide lists of plastic surgeons who claim to perform deep neck lifts, it is essential to conduct your own research before choosing a surgeon. Always review a surgeon’s before and after photos to assess the quality and consistency of their results.
A true deep neck lift should address not just the skin, but also the deeper neck structures. These include:
The platysma muscle - (Note: While traditional neck lifts also address the platysma, a deep neck lift goes beyond the standard tightening or plication. It involves more advanced sculpting, trimming, and repositioning of the platysma and surrounding tissues, which is crucial for patients with a heavier or fuller neck.)
Subplatysmal (deep) fat
The digastric muscles
The submandibular glands
The hyoid bone and its associated fascia
Proper deep neck lift surgery involves trimming and repositioning these anatomical features to achieve a defined and natural neck contour. The hyoid bone, in particular, plays a crucial role in neck shape and contour; advanced techniques may involve attaching the platysma to the hyoid fascia or directly manipulating the hyoid bone’s position for a more youthful neck profile.
Some surgeons’ websites may claim they perform deep neck lifts, but in reality, they may only tighten superficial tissues without addressing these deeper structures. Confirm during your consultation that your surgeon has experience working on all these specific deep structures, and ask to see before and after photos of their deep neck lift results. This helps ensure you receive the comprehensive procedure you expect.
More surgeons will be included in this list as further updates are made.
